Police open investigation papers on PAS leaders over remarks against non-Muslims

JOHOR BARU – Police have opened investigation papers against two prominent PAS leaders for issuing inflammatory statements on non-Muslims.

The two individuals in question are Permatang Pauh MP Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan and Marang MP Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution, investigation papers were opened against both Perikatan Nasional lawmakers under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for issuing statements with intent to incite and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act for misuse of a network.

“Given both cases are still under the purview of police, I do not intend to comment further to avoid interfering with an ongoing investigation,” Saifuddin said.

The home minister was answering a query via a written reply by Lim Guan Eng (Bagan-PH) who questioned the status of ongoing investigations against Hadi and Fawwaz.

In January, Fawwaz through a post on his Facebook page claimed that kafir (infidels) are making efforts to topple Islam.

Fawwaz later said that the post was uploaded by an administrator and not himself.

Meanwhile, last year, Hadi had accused non-Muslims of being the main cause of corruption in the country. – The Vibes, April 8, 2023
