Police patrol Catholic abbey where Ann Widdecombe’s funeral will be held

• Police officers have carried out security patrols outside the Catholic abbey where former Tory minister Ann Widdecombe’s funeral is set to take place at 2pm on Wednesday.
• A private requiem mass is taking place at Buckfast Abbey in Devon for Miss Widdecombe, who died aged 78 on 8 July following a hammer attack at her home on Dartmoor.
• Joshua Kerry, 28, from South Yorkshire, was charged with her murder on 20 July.
• Buckfast Abbey described the former MP as a dedicated public servant of profound faith, while her family asked for the initial service to be kept private.
• A wider public memorial service for the politician and television personality will be held later this year.
