THE Royal Malaysian Police have launched an investigation into allegations of immoral conduct during a privately organised family motivation programme held at a convention centre in Shah Alam.
Shah Alam District Police Chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that a police report had been filed in late February by the husband of one of the programme’s participants.
“Today, we recorded statements from the complainant’s wife and several other witnesses who were at the scene. Representatives from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) were also present during the session,” Bernama cited him saying in a statement.
He urged anyone with information to contact the Shah Alam District Police Headquarters or reach out directly to Investigating Officer ASP Anuar Amilah at 019-225 5597.
The issue gained wider attention after the Director-General of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, said his department would be looking into the programme, which took place in September last year. The event was alleged to have involved indecent displays and elements deemed un-Islamic.
In response, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government was treating the matter seriously, noting that the event was privately held and unaffiliated with official agencies.
“The report has only recently come to our attention. I have instructed JAIS to conduct a full investigation and to take firm action if the allegations are found to be true,” he said during the launch of the Turath Islami 2025 Festival.
Asked whether the convention centre’s management would be summoned for an explanation, Amirudin said the matter would be left to the authorities to determine the next course of action.
“I am concerned about the allegations. We must ensure a thorough investigation is carried out and those responsible held to account,” he added. - July 12, 2025
