POLICE are investigating reports of a mysterious booming sound and accompanying tremors felt in several parts of Ipoh this morning, which left many residents startled and concerned.
Ipoh District Police Chief, ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, confirmed that authorities are aware of the incident.
“Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin will issue an official statement if there is any confirmed information or report regarding the incident,” Bernama cited him saying when contacted.
Mohammad Danial Nordin, 36, a resident of Klebang Harmoni, described the noise as similar to an explosion or “someone slamming a door extremely hard,” adding that he felt vibrations at the same time.
“It was really mysterious because the sound was very loud, and there was a tremor,” he said, still visibly shaken.
Social media posts suggested that residents in areas such as Chemor, Chepor, and Tanah Hitam also experienced the tremors at around 10.30am.
This is not the first such occurrence in the city. On 21 October last year, a loud boom followed by strong tremors was reported in multiple locations across Ipoh, including Tasek, Perak Stadium, Meru, Falim, Manjoi, and Sungai Siput.
At the time, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay stated that investigations were ongoing, and the source of the disturbance remained unknown.
Today’s incident has reignited public concern, with residents once again calling for clarity and reassurance amid the unexplained disturbances. - June 18, 2025
