JOHOR Bahru Police have launched an investigation into a viral video showing a motorist confronting police officers over a parked patrol car on the roadside in Jalan Austin Heights 7/4 early Sunday morning.
Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, said the incident occurred at around 4.00am on 15 June, involving two officers from the Crime Prevention Patrol Unit (RCJ) of Taman Setia Indah police station.
The officers were conducting routine patrols in a Proton Waja police vehicle when it developed a technical fault.
“The vehicle experienced electrical issues affecting the headlights, rear lights and beacon light, causing a total failure of the lighting system,” Raub said in a statement on Wednesday.
“As a result, the Proton Waja could not be driven and the officers pulled over at a suitable location to await assistance from the Maintenance Division.”
While waiting, a male driver in a private vehicle approached and questioned their presence before proceeding to provoke the officers.
“The officers explained the vehicle breakdown, but the man insisted on pressing the issue before leaving the scene,” Raub said.
Although no official report has been lodged concerning the encounter, police are treating the circulation of the video seriously, noting its potential to harm the image and credibility of on-duty officers.
The public has been urged to refrain from making unfounded assumptions or spreading unverified information on social media.
Anyone with relevant information or concerns is encouraged to contact the nearest police station or the Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Headquarters hotline at 07-2182323 to assist the investigation. - June 18, 2025
