Defence minister confirms police are investigating an alleged leak of MAF strategic posting information, with statements taken from officers.
MELAKA: Police have recorded statements from several Malaysian Armed Forces officers regarding an alleged leak of strategic posting information on social media.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pic) confirmed the investigation follows a police report lodged by the Ministry of Defence last week.
“The police have already called in some officers to assist with interviews and investigations,” he told reporters after visiting Terendak Camp in Sungai Udang.
He declined to reveal the number of officers involved, stating the investigation is ongoing.
“At this stage, investigations are still ongoing, and I am confident that once they are completed, appropriate action will be taken,” Mohamed Khaled added.
MINDEF had previously warned it would take legal action against anyone found disseminating such confidential information.
Separately, the minister said MINDEF would consult the government on procurements that, if frozen, could affect MAF operations.
This includes procurement related to the welfare of officers, personnel and their families.
“Anything that we believe could affect operations will be submitted for consultation,” he said.
He referenced the Prime Minister’s statement that such processes could proceed to avoid operational impact.
“We believe that matters involving welfare should, in some cases, continue,” Mohamed Khaled concluded.
