KOTA KINABALU: Police have received 157 election-related reports, with 86 investigation papers opened over torn party flags, vandalised campaign posters, acts of mischief and alleged online slander.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said these cases make up most of the violations reported during the polls.

He said one social-media case has been referred to MCMC, while several others possibly linked to election offences have been forwarded to the Election Commission (EC).

Khalid said any elements of provocation or defamation will be reviewed by the Deputy Public Prosecutor following standard procedure.

He added that polling for the 17th Sabah Election has remained calm and orderly, and urged voters to cast their ballots early in case of worsening weather.
