Police in Negeri Sembilan have now recorded statements from 35 individuals in connection with the death of a Year Four pupil who was found unconscious at a school in Senawang and later pronounced dead.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said that those who have been interviewed include students, teachers, school administrative staff, medical personnel, and family members of the deceased pupil. He added that investigators are also obtaining documents and records from the school, the hospital, and the forensic department.

The case is being probed under Section 507C of the Penal Code (which covers certain offences involving confidentiality and privacy), according to police statements. Alzafny urged the public to refrain from speculation that could hinder the investigation.

Timeline and cause

According to police, the report of the incident was lodged at 1:19 pm on Wednesday, after the pupil collapsed while receiving initial treatment at a nearby private clinic. The child was found unconscious in the boys’ restroom at the school before being confirmed dead.

An autopsy has reportedly revealed that the child died as a result of force applied to the neck, a finding that suggests compression or pressure as the fatal injury. This cause of death was first reported by New Straits Times and corroborated by Free Malaysia Today.

Meanwhile, the child’s family is awaiting the full post-mortem report to be made public.

Response from the Ministry of Education

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has stated that the ministry is leaving the investigation entirely to the police and expects it to be conducted transparently. She expressed her condolences to the family and emphasized that emotional and psychosocial support would be provided to students and staff at the school. The Ministry of Health will also assist with counselling interventions.

Ongoing developments

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, examine CCTV footage (if available), medical records, and forensic findings. Once the investigation is complete, the file is expected to be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for possible charges.

So far, no suspects have been publicly named. The police maintained their appeal for discretion, asking media and the public to avoid conjecture that could affect the integrity of the case.

As the investigation progresses, further updates are expected from the police and the relevant ministries.
