The New York Police Department rescued a bald eagle on Tuesday (17 February), floating on ice in the Hudson river.

Video shows NYPD Harbor unit’s delicate operation to save the distressed bird which appeared unable to fly.

The team used a blanket to secure the eagle, shielding it from the harsh winds.

"Our specialised units acted quickly to bring the bird to safety," the NYPD confirmed via social media.
