KOTA BHARU, Aug 25 — An elderly woman and her granddaughter were killed after the Perodua Axia they were travelling in veered off the road and crashed into a tree along Jalan Pasir Mas-Rantau Panjang near Culvert 5 in Pasir Mas yesterday.

In the 11.20 am incident, the 73-year-old woman, who was seated in the rear, died at the scene, while her 23-year-old granddaughter, who was seated in the front, died while receiving treatment at Pasir Mas Hospital.

Pasir Mas district police chief ACP Mazlan Hassan said the car was driven by another granddaughter of the victim, an 18-year-old girl, who suffered a fractured wrist and internal injuries and is receiving further treatment at the same hospital.

“The victims were three women from the same family, a grandmother and her two granddaughters, who were travelling from Pasir Mas towards Rantau Panjang,” he said in a statement today.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
