Police say toddler injured in crocodile attack at zoo is now ‘stable’

  • A three-year-old boy is now in a stable condition in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Hurst zoo near Huntingdon last Thursday.
  • The child was reportedly attacked by at least one crocodile after ending up in the enclosure, with zoo staff pulling him out and providing initial medical treatment before he was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
  • A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident but has since been bailed, with police stating he was "assessed as not being fit for interview".
  • The arrested man, who is believed to have learning difficulties and was visiting the zoo with carers, is not thought to have known the child.
  • Police inquiries are ongoing to understand the full circumstances surrounding the distressing incident, with specialist officers supporting the boy and his family.
