Perak police are seeking dashcam footage and witnesses following a road accident on Jalan Ipoh-Lumut involving two journalists and a lorry.

IPOH: The police are urging members of the public who witnessed an accident involving a car carrying two journalists and a lorry which occurred this morning on Jalan Ipoh-Lumut, near the Taman Kledang Permai traffic light junction to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said those who possess dashcam footage of the incident are also requested to provide the information to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Ipoh district police headquarters (IPD).

He noted that the incident, which took place at approximately 5.45 am., involved a Perodua Bezza carrying the two journalists, who were traveling from the direction of Meru towards Bagan Datuk.

“Upon reaching the scene, the car which had stopped at a traffic light intersection was struck from behind by a lorry traveling in the same direction.

“As a result of the collision, the car spun on the road, while the lorry veered off and ended up in a roadside drain,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Alwi said police received a report regarding the incident at 8.38 am, and three victims were transported to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here for further medical treatment.

Earlier, two journalists who were en route to cover an event involving Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Bagan Datuk today sustained injuries in the accident.

Nur Afiradina Arshad, 34, a journalist with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), is currently receiving treatment in the ‘yellow zone’ (semi-critical area) at HRPB, while Zahratulhayat Mat Arif, 37, a journalist of the New Straits Times (NST), was discharged following treatment.

Mohd Alwi added that further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
