
Punjab Police has constituted 12 special teams to trace and arrest the individuals involved in the alleged ‘attack’ on Majitha police station and attempt to forcibly release a detainee from police custody.
According to police, extensive raids are being conducted at multiple locations to arrest the accused involved in the alleged ‘attack’.
The operation was launched following the incident that took place on Sunday, when members of Kirti Kisan Union held a demonstration outside Majitha police station following the arrest of Jobanjit Singh. Later, senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia along with supporters joined the protest. They alleged that Jobanjit was arrested in a fabricated case because of political vendetta as he was a polling agent of SAD in the recently held Municipal elections.
Police had alleged that the crowd stormed the police station premises and forcibly ‘freed’ a person who was being held in custody. The incident triggered a major security concern and prompted senior police officials to review the situation.
The police said that police teams have been deployed and are continuously carrying out searches and raids in various areas to locate those involved in the incident. Surveillance footage and other evidence are also being examined as part of the investigation.
