KUALA LUMPUR — Police will begin recording statements from 10 former Negeri Sembilan state executive council (Exco) members from tomorrow as part of investigations into the ongoing constitutional and royal institution dispute in the state.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the move followed several police reports lodged in connection with the matter.
He said, apart from the former Exco members, police would also record statements from witnesses and other individuals linked to the case as part of efforts to complete the investigation.
“There have indeed been many police reports lodged by certain parties over the matter. We will conduct investigations and record statements from those concerned, including the former Exco members and those involved.
“So far, police have called up several individuals to have their statements recorded, including one or two individuals who may be witnesses in the case,” he told reporters after launching the Whitening the Blackspot Project of the Penang Police Contingent at the PICCA@Arena Butterworth Convention Centre here today.
The 10 former Exco members had their appointments revoked by Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir with immediate effect on Sept 20.
A state gazette dated Sept 24 stated that their appointments were revoked under Article 38(5) of the Constitution of the State of Negeri Sembilan 1959.
The revocation came amid an ongoing dispute involving the state administration and the royal institution. Attorney-General Tan Sri Dusuki Mokhtar has said the revocation was valid under Article 38(5), while Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ismail Lasim has disputed the move and maintained that the former Exco members remained valid officeholders.
Mohd Khalid said police would complete their investigation papers before submitting them to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) for further action.
Asked about the legal provisions being used in the investigation, he said police were still conducting a comprehensive review of all reports received and did not rule out the possibility that some cases could involve the Sedition Act or other laws.
“Police investigate, (but) the decision on whether to prosecute and so on rests with the Attorney General.
“Some (cases) may be related to the Sedition Act, while others may involve other offences and require scrutiny by all parties, particularly the Attorney General’s Chambers,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid said the security and public order situation in Negeri Sembilan remained good and under control.
He said the people in the state appeared to understand the current developments and were cooperating with the authorities.
“We are trying to maintain the situation properly for the safety of the community and the people of Negeri Sembilan,” he said. — September 27, 2026
