KOTA BHARU, Sept 19 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) assures that border control at the Kelantan-Thailand border will continue to be strengthened to curb smuggling activities.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said PDRM is working closely with various other enforcement agencies to ensure control along the country’s borders is more effective.

“I believe and am confident that Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat has firmly strengthened law enforcement, and many matters can be resolved.

“Insya-Allah, with the cooperation of all agencies, we will further strengthen efforts to combat smuggling and other issues at the border,” he told reporters after attending the 17th PDRM Public Officers Assembly in conjunction with the 218th Police Day celebration here today.

He also said an official visit to Kelantan will be made in the near future to personally inspect operations at the border area, including issues with unlicensed premises and agencies identified as operating illegally.

“We believe that the enforcement currently carried out by the Kelantan police is at a good level and these efforts will be enhanced from time to time,” he added. — Bernama
