POLICE are expected to submit their full investigation report into the death of National Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) cadet Syamsul Haris Shamsudin to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) in the near future, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said today.
He noted that finalising the report required coordination between several agencies, as the case involved multiple layers of scrutiny.
“There are many aspects that need to be investigated carefully so that a proper and complete course of action can be taken. God willing, we will complete the probe in the near future and submit it to the AGC for further action, including the possibility of an inquest,” he told reporters at the launch of the MyPOLISPA personal accident takaful programme in Kota Bharu.
Also present at the event were Cuepacs President Datuk Adnan Mat and Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.
Khalid’s remarks follow recent comments by Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, who said the AGC would only decide whether an inquest was necessary after receiving the full investigation report, including post-mortem findings and supporting documentation.
Dusuki confirmed that the AGC had yet to receive the complete file as police were still awaiting the results of a second post-mortem. He said the police had formally requested that the hospital expedite the process.
The death of Syamsul Haris on 28 July during training at Kota Tinggi Hospital, Johor, sparked concern after the initial post-mortem revealed suspicious injuries. His family subsequently called for a formal inquest to determine the actual cause of death.
A second post-mortem was conducted on 30 August at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, following a court order. The findings of that examination are expected to play a crucial role in the AGC’s next steps. - September 19, 2025
