Police trace threatening call to Rafizi’s wife — number registered to foreigner

THE Royal Malaysia Police have identified the phone number used to send a threatening message to the wife of former Minister of Economy, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, and confirmed that it is registered under the name of a foreign national.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said authorities are currently working to trace the individual linked to the number.

"The phone number is registered to a foreign national. We are still tracking down the individual concerned," he stated during a press conference held at Bukit Aman on Friday.

The threat emerged in the wake of an alarming incident on 13 August, when Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was reportedly attacked at a shopping mall in Putrajaya. Thus far, police have recorded statements from 19 individuals in connection with the case.

"We have recorded statements from Rafizi’s family, the driver, mall staff, and several other witnesses to assist the investigation," Mohd Khalid added.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the location has been reviewed, and police are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry.

"We are also awaiting the hospital’s chemical report regarding the substance that was injected into Rafizi’s son," he said, confirming that the boy remains in stable condition and under continued medical observation.

According to earlier reports, the incident occurred at approximately 2pm in the pick-up and drop-off area of the shopping mall. Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that no physical injuries were initially observed.

Rafizi later released a statement claiming that his son was assaulted and injected with a syringe by two men dressed entirely in black and wearing full-face motorcycle helmets. The attack allegedly occurred as the family was preparing to leave the mall and enter their vehicle.
