IPOH – Two police tracker dogs from the K9 unit of the Perak contingent police headquarters (IPK) received Jasamu Dikenang medals for their excellent service and success in locating and rescuing missing persons this year.
The two German Shepherd dogs, Chulio and Rocky, received the award along with their respective handlers, Tony Matius Farang and Tan Wei Hong.
Chulio, who has participated in more than 50 operations, received recognition for his success in locating bodies in the search and rescue operation for missing persons in Tronoh on May 11.
Rocky, meanwhile, was praised for his efficiency which led to the discovery of a male e-hailing driver in a weak and hungry condition on a hill near the Orang Asli cemetery in Ulu Geruntum, Gopeng, in less than two hours when the operation was activated in January.
The dogs received the medals from Perak police chief, Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, in conjunction with the Ipoh IPK monthly assembly here today.
Mior at a press conference said police had four K9 dogs in Ipoh, and Bukit Aman was planning to develop two more K9 centres in the Manjung and Pengkalan Hulu districts to help track down various cases such as missing persons, crime, drugs or explosives.
“Both locations are strategic as Manjung is a tourist centre where people visit Pangkor Island, which requires a unit to act immediately in the event of an incident, while Pengkalan Hulu is a national border location where this unit can provide services in the area,” he said. – Bernama, June 14, 2022
