Police warn against misinformation surrounding Zara Qairina case

THE dissemination of images and unverified details concerning the Zara Qairina case may mislead the public and jeopardise ongoing investigations, said Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

"The information being shared is inaccurate and has the potential to confuse the public. Such actions not only disrupt the course of investigations but can also interfere with the pursuit of justice for all parties involved," he stated in an official release today.

He further affirmed that "all investigative procedures, including the post-mortem process, are conducted in accordance with established legal frameworks and procedures."

Emphasising the seriousness of the issue, he warned that such acts could lead to legal action under Section 15 of the Child Act 2001, for wrongful disclosure under Section 203A of the Penal Code, and for improper use of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"PDRM advises that compliance with the law is fundamental to the peace and well-being of the country. Accordingly, any breaches will be met with firm action under the existing provisions," he added.

The statement follows the circulation of several images online, purportedly connected to the late Zara Qairina, which have sparked widespread speculation among netizens. - August 7, 2025
