Police watchdog probes BTP detectives over Simon Levy case

  • The Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched an investigation into two British Transport Police detectives over alleged failures to properly investigate serial sex offender Simon Levy.
  • Levy was sentenced to life imprisonment earlier this month for the sexually motivated murders of Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo and Sheryl Wilkins in 2025, along with the rape of a third woman.
  • The watchdog is examining delays in Levy's handling by police after he was bailed despite being arrested for sexual assaults on the London Underground in late 2024.
  • A separate IOPC probe remains ongoing into two Metropolitan Police officers regarding their management of Levy after his release on licence in February 2023.
  • The Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police and Crown Prosecution Service have all admitted failings in how they dealt with him.
