Firefighters in Poland continued to battle a large forest fire in the south-east of the country on Wednesday, the PAP news agency reported, a day after a water-bomber plane crashed, killing the pilot.

The cause of the firefighting plane's accident is not yet known and investigations by the public prosecutor's office are ongoing.

The blaze broke out in the Solska Forest south of Lublin on Tuesday after weeks of drought and spread rapidly, PAP said.

According to the fire department, 48 response teams are currently on site, with 58 more expected to arrive from the provinces of Lublin and Lesser Poland.

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said officials are counting on the deployment of two firefighting helicopters to prevent the fire from spreading further.
