During his address at the state-level National Day celebration, Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, the Premier of Sarawak, expressed his concern about Malaysia's ongoing struggle to channel its efforts toward economic advancement due to persistent political conflicts in Peninsular Malaysia.

Abang Johari lamented the divisive tactics employed by certain leaders who exploit racial and religious issues to garner political backing, emphasizing that this approach undermines unity in a diverse society. He highlighted that in a time when the world grapples with challenges like the post-COVID-19 aftermath, global climate shifts, and conflicts, it is imperative for the nation to stand united.

The Premier called for an end to internal discord, asserting that continued strife based on race, religion, or regional differences would detract from addressing substantial challenges. He underscored that constant suspicion and disputes within the country would only divert attention and resources towards rivalry.

In Sarawak, Abang Johari disclosed that the state government, under the leadership of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), has committed to fostering a clear path for economic growth. This vision is materialized through the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which outlines the state's focus on digital advancement, infrastructure enhancement in urban and rural areas, human capital development, education, renewable energy, and participation in the oil and gas sector.

The Premier highlighted the state government's investments in the hydrogen economy, carbon-related ventures, and Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) projects. These initiatives collectively aim to accelerate economic growth, increase state revenue, and generate employment opportunities with competitive wages.

Abang Johari revealed that persistent endeavours are underway to attract foreign investment, particularly in the energy-based industrial sector. He referred to initiatives in places like Samalaju and Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu, where downstream activities related to the oil and gas industry are pursued.

Providing insight into international learning, Abang Johari detailed a recent delegation's visit to Norway and the United Kingdom to explore the use of technology in Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) projects. He cited Sweden's energy industry as an example, highlighting its successful cross-border energy distribution. The Premier expressed optimism that such experiences would aid Sarawak in exporting its energy resources to neighbouring regions.
