SIBU, Nov 10 — Political stability in Sarawak has enabled the government to stay focused in its development agenda which subsequently created a conducive environment for investments and entrepreneurship.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government II, Michael Tiang Ming Tee said it had also helped the state to overcome the unprecedented challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic and recorded the fastest vaccination rate percentage among the people.

“The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government did not stop there but stepped up its effort in dealing with the pandemic by implementing nine Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance Packages (BKSS), worth more than RM6.7 billion to enable Sarawakians to return to their normal life.

“The GPS government then introduced and implemented the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to accelerate the achievement of a high income and developed economy,” he said when officiating the opening of Sri Minyak Tenaga Sdn Bhd Shell petrol station at Jalan Sungai Maaw here today.

Tiang said four GPS assemblymen namely himself for the Pelawan constituency, Datuk Annuar Rapaee (Nangka), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (Dudong) and Joseph Chieng Jin Ek (Bukit Assek) are injecting at least RM10 million worth of development funds into their respective areas.

This excludes some of the special projects initiated by them such as the construction of four new major roads in Sibu which require a total budget of RM500 million, he said.

“We believe these four roads are the missing links which will definitely unlock Sibu’s potential to become a vibrant central hub for economy, finance, education, medical care as well as culture and tourism,” he said.

On this matter, he said that Bawang Assan which is represented by an opposition party should not be left behind.

“We want the whole of Sibu to be included in the State Development agenda with a complete visionary team formed by GPS people representatives.

“With GPS’ good governance track record, our local YBs (elected representatives) with the full support of the State administrative resources, we can transform Sibu and we want to transform Bawang Assan to become Sibu’s future and new development zone for residential, commercial, industries, schools and medical care,” he added. — Bernama
