The political landscape in Malaysia is witnessing a dynamic shift as Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, the Member of Parliament for Bukit Gantang, boldly predicts that an additional 10 opposition Members of Parliament will soon declare their allegiance to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This anticipated wave of support is set to be officially announced prior to the opening of the upcoming Parliament session scheduled for February 26. What makes this development particularly intriguing is the expected involvement of Members of Parliament affiliated with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) from various states, including Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, and Melaka.
Addressing the media in a press conference, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz shed light on the prevailing discontent among members of parliament associated with Perikatan Nasional, particularly those within Bersatu. He highlighted their sense of disillusionment, emphasizing that the party's lack of a clear direction has led to a feeling of being undervalued. Notably, Bersatu has been criticized for its infrequent engagement with its Members of Parliament, especially in discussions concerning how the party can actively support its members in securing and maintaining their parliamentary seats.
One key factor contributing to this discontent is financial strain. Members of Parliament, having committed to safeguarding the interests of their constituents, find themselves facing significant financial challenges. Despite more than a year passing since these commitments were made, the party has yet to provide any substantial assistance, exacerbating the frustration among its members.
In response to these circumstances, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz issued a call to action, urging Bersatu Members of Parliament to promptly extend their support to Prime Minister Anwar. He stressed that such solidarity is not only vital for the stability of the government but also crucial for the effective implementation of federal administration development plans in their respective constituencies.
As the political landscape in Malaysia continues to evolve, the declaration of support by additional Bersatu MPs for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing political narrative, setting the stage for a potentially transformative period in the country's political history.
