The Haryana State Pollution Control Board has inspected a biomass pellet plant on Ghukawali Road at Nuhianwali village in the district following a complaint lodged on the CM Window portal.
The plant has allegedly become a source of trouble for residents living nearby due to dust, noise and pollution-related issues, villagers claimed.
Following a complaint on the CM Window portal by a resident, Chandrapal, Haryana State Pollution Control Board Assistant Environment Engineer Hariprasad on Sunday visited the plant and interacted with the complainant and plant management.
During the inspection, the official examined different parts of the plant and heard out the residents. Chandrapal said his house was located very close to the plant and around 15 other families living nearby were also facing problems due to its operations.
He alleged that waste dust and bundles of straw had been dumped outside his house by the plant management.
He claimed that the continuous movement of tractors and loaders for lifting the stock was causing noise and dust pollution, making it difficult for the families to live peacefully.
Chanderpal also claimed that loud music from tractors and movement of loaded vehicles near houses were adding to the air and noise pollution. He alleged that the plant did not have a proper boundary wall.
The complainant claimed that despite repeated complaints to the company’s headquarters in Delhi, no concrete action was taken to address the problems. Chanderpal said he was forced to approach the CM Window, district grievance committee, Pollution Control Board and Sirsa administration as the company did not heed to his complaints.
Plant manager Ashok Kaushik assured the official of taking immediate steps to resolve the issues raised by the villagers.
In the presence of the Pollution Control Board official, he said work on some of the concerns would start the same day, while the remaining issues would be addressed within 15 days.
The manager said water sprinkling would be carried out twice daily on the unpaved road control dust, loud sound systems would be completely shut and no work would be carried out near the complainant’s house after 8 pm. Kaushik added that a temporary wall would also be erected around the plant. He added that the plant had already installed several systems to control dust emissions.
Assistant Environment Engineer Hariprasad said a complaint regarding the issue had been received and necessary directions were issued to the plant management after inspection and discussions with both parties.
