MANILA, Philippines — Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Bishop Leopoldo Jaucian as head of the Diocese of Bangued.
The Holy See announced the decision on Saturday, Nov. 7, citing Paragraph 2 of Canon 401 of the Code of Canon Law, which covers bishops unable to fulfill their duties because of ill health or other grave reason.
In a Facebook post, CBCP News said that Jaucian, 66, was appointed bishop of Bangued on Jan. 5, 2007, received episcopal ordination on March 26 of that year and was installed on March 31.
He led the diocese for nearly 19 years.
