  • Samsung is discontinuing its proprietary messaging application, Samsung Messages, effective July.
  • The tech giant is directing users of its smartphones and other devices to transition to Google Messages for a consistent Android messaging experience.
  • Switching to Google Messages will provide access to new features, including Google's Gemini artificial intelligence and improved photo sharing between Android and iOS devices via RCS.
  • Users are advised to download Google Messages from the Play Store and set it as their default messaging application.
  • Owners of devices running Android 11 or older operating systems will not be impacted by the discontinuation of Samsung Messages.
