PORT KLANG: The Port Klang Joint Task Force on e-waste intercepted 242 tonnes of prohibited electronic and scheduled waste in a major operation this morning.
Deputy commander of the Port Klang Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Wan Fazli Wan Hamat said the 18th iteration of Op Green Shield led to the seizure of 10 containers holding 219 tonnes of e-waste.
He added that another container was found to contain 23 tonnes of scheduled waste classified under the SW422 category.
Wan Fazli stated that imports of such waste are strictly prohibited under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
“Stern action will be taken against those who violate the law,” he said in a statement.
The seized containers will be placed in a secure area pending re-export in accordance with established procedures.
Wan Fazli said the seizure reflects the authorities’ unwavering commitment to preventing the entry of prohibited waste.
He added that AKPS would continue to tighten control at all entry points, including major ports, to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and interests.
The integrated operation involved cooperation from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Department of Environment (DOE), SIRIM and the Port Klang Authority.
