Portugal coach Fernando Santos believes Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo will retire on his own terms.
Santos can see Ronaldo hanging up the boots when he feels he cannot compete as he wants physically.
He said of the 37 year-old Portugal captain: "One day he will feel that his condition is not the same.
"He will end his career if he realises that he can no longer be the same Ronaldo."
Ronaldo is inside the final year of his current United contract.
