DOHA – Portugal defeated the Ghana 3-2 last night during the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The match was played at the Stadium 974 in Doha in front of a crowd of over 42,660, the media reported.
The goals for the winning team were scored by Cristiano Ronaldo (penalty kick in the 65th minute), Joao Felix (the 78th minute) and Rafael Leao (the 80th minute).
The goals by Ghana were scored by Andre Ayew (the 73rd minute) and Osman Bukari (89th minute).
Portugal’s 37-year-old striker Ronaldo became the first player ever to score at least one goal in five FIFA World Cups. In all, he has scored eight goals beginning with the 2006 World Cup edition.
“Ronaldo, who had twice come close to scoring in the first half as well as having an effort ruled out for a foul, earned a penalty in the second half and rifled the spot-kick into the top corner of the net to break the deadlock and become the first male player to score in five World Cups,” the official FIFA website said in a statement after the match. – Bernama, November 25, 2022
