The Orang Asli community in Pos Bihai is expressing concerns about the presence of tigers in their settlement area. According to a resident of Kampung Tendrik Apek Asud, there have been recent sightings of tiger footprints near the villagers' homes.
The tigers have been spotted roaming around the area for the past three months, with footprints being found in several other nearby villages as well. The presence of tigers has caused fear and anxiety among the residents. They report hearing dogs barking at night and finding footprints in their house compounds in the morning.
One resident mentioned that a dog was even killed in an attack. Due to these incidents, the villagers have become afraid to go outside and engage in their daily activities. They now only venture into the forest in groups for safety. In response to the situation, the village chief, Tendrik Alang Segan, has reached out to the Department of Wildlife Protection and National Parks (Perhilitan) and filed a complaint.
The hope is that Perhilitan will take immediate action to capture and relocate the tigers. This would provide relief to the residents who are currently too afraid to go out for work. Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim, the Galas assemblyman, has also voiced his concerns about the increasing number of tiger sightings in the area. He believes that the tigers' habitats have been degraded and destroyed, leading to their increased presence near human settlements. Syahbuddin urged all parties involved to address this issue and find a solution that resolves the conflict between humans and wildlife.
The residents of Pos Bihai are waiting for action to be taken to ensure their safety and prevent further incidents involving the tigers. They hope that the authorities will implement measures that protect both the community and the wildlife. In the meantime, the villagers remain cautious and stay indoors, only venturing out into the forest when accompanied by others.
