Kuala Lumpur: The ringgit and Bursa Malaysia got off to a positive start today, both recording marginal increases.
Taking the cue from a positive performance on Wall Street overnight, the benchmark Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) started the day at 1,467.90, a 1.97-point rise over yesterday’s close of 1,465.93.
By 9.18am, it had gained another 2.81 points to 1,470.71.
On the broader market, gainers also outpaced losers 246 to 143.
The ringgit took advantage of a retreat by the greenback amidst a decline in investors’ risk tolerance to start trading at 4.3925/4.3985 against the US dollar, up marginally from yesterday’s close of 4.3960/4.4000.
Market direction will now likely be determined by the monetary policy decisions of the US Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank expected next week, an analyst said.
