Tenom: The National Farmers’ Organisation (Nafas) hopes Sabah and Sarawak can develop grain corn plantations like the one that will be implemented in Kelantan and Terengganu to end the dependence on costly feed imports for livestock.
Nafas Board member Datuk Indera Mustaffar Kamal Abdul Hamid said some 12,140 hectares in Kelantan and Terengganu had been identified for the project.
“The land that was previously used for tobacco cultivation will be used for grain corn cultivation,” he said after officiating the 44th annual meeting (AGM) of the Tenom Area Farmers’ Organisation (PPK), here.
Mustaffar said this measure would help cover the supply of animal feed such as for chicken in the long term.
