Two passengers were left with minor injuries after a power bank exploded onboard a Scoot flight from Taiwan to Singapore on Tuesday (Jan 10).

According to AsiaOne, the duo were set to depart from the Taoyuan International Airport on flight TR993 at 7.35pm and arrive in Singapore on Wednesday at 12.20am.

Power bank explodes on Scoot flight

However, before they could take off, the power bank which one of them was using exploded and engulfed the entire aircraft in smoke.

Thankfully, airport authorities were made aware of the incident at 7.40pm and firefighters rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire.

The aircraft was also able to return to the tarmac from the runway shortly after the fire was put out.

Departure information later showed that the flight was still marked as delayed as of 12.30am on Wednesday.

Suffered minor burns

The Straits Times reported that the two passengers suffered minor burns to their fingers and chose to resume their journey after it was determined that they didn’t need to be admitted to a hospital.

In a statement to the English daily, Scoot confirmed the incident and said that it is currently working to provide compensation for the affected passengers.

“We are rescheduling the flight and will provide affected passengers with accommodation and meals.

“Scoot sincerely apologises for the incident. The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority. Investigations into the incident are underway.”
