Kota Kinabalu: Electricity supply in Sabah and Labuan will return to normal as the Rugading Independent Power Station (IPP) has resumed operations on Oct 8, said Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).

Its Senior General Manager (Asset Management) Ir Idris Mohd Noor said Rugading IPP’s operations were closed temporarily on Sept 8 to make way for technical works.

Idris said following the closure, Sabah Grid experienced a shortage of generation reserves, causing SESB to ration supply on a scheduled basis.

“The rationing of electricity supply implemented in several districts in turn aims to stabilise the state’s electricity grid system and prevent the whole of Sabah and Labuan from experiencing supply disruptions,” he explained in a statement, Sunday.

“The efforts and work carried out by IPP Rugading staff in ensuring that the power station can operate as usual to provide stable electricity supply to the people is highly appreciated,” he said.
