Boarding school life can be challenging with homesickness issues and getting used to life away from home.
It is even worse, as the old-time tradition of ragging-like orientation is still prevalent, which could sometimes lead to harmful pranks on the younger students.
Thus, it is not surprising that such cases still occur.
Sinar Harian had reported an incident where a 13 years-old student was nearly blinded after being poured with soap water while sleeping.
The incident occured at a boarding school in Gerik, Perak.
According to Sinar, Perak Chief Police Officer Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the victim's father, had lodged a report on the incidents around 12.22 PM last Wednesday.
According to Yusri, the incident occurred on 19th May, around 1.15 AM.
"The Form 1 student's eyes were poured with soapy liquid, probably showering soap, and had received treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh."
"Based on the medical reports, the ophthalmologist had confirmed that the victim sustains grade 1 bilateral eye chemical injury and needs further treatments.", says Yusri.
Yusri also stated the perpetrator had been arrested and would be investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury.
Sinar also reported several teachers and students would be summoned as witnesses to assist in the investigation.
"The investigation paper will be referred to the public prosecutor for further action.", says Yusri.
The issues of harmful pranks are still prevalent among Malaysian students, and it can be downright to the level of bullying.
Students need to be reminded and reprimanded for their actions and the consequences they have to bear from their actions on a long-term basis, as some of the pranks they pulled might harm others and will mar their records due to actions made from their stupidity.
