KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s fiancée, Bella Astillah, arrived at the Federal Court here this morning ahead of the prosecution’s final appeal against his acquittal on four charges involving criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering.

Dressed in a yellow baju kurung, the 33-year-old arrived at about 7.55am accompanied by members of her family, Sinar Harian reported.

When approached by reporters and asked about her hopes for the outcome of the case, Bella simply replied: “Pray for him.”

She then entered the courtroom to join Syed Saddiq’s parents, who had arrived earlier at about 7am.

The Federal Court is expected to decide today whether the 34-year-old former youth and sports minister will remain acquitted or have his conviction reinstated, which carries a sentence of seven years’ imprisonment, two strokes of the cane and a RM10 million fine.

A three-member bench led by Court of Appeal President Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais, sitting with Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali and Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, is scheduled to deliver its decision after previously hearing submissions from both the prosecution and defence.

The proceedings mark the prosecution’s final avenue of appeal, with Syed Saddiq appearing as the respondent.
