The preacher recently arrested for distributing explicit videos involving his four wives and other women had previously been detained by the Selangor Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIS) last year.

His credentials were revoked in 2022, and the independent preacher was arrested by JAIS in September 2024 for teaching Islamic studies without proper authorisation.

Chairman of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), Senator Datuk Salehuddin Saidin, stated that the matter violates Section 119 of the Administration of Islamic Religion Enactment (Selangor State) 2003.

“The case is still at the trial stage in the Syariah Lower Court. In that case, an individual who is also one of the surau administrators is being investigated on suspicion of facilitating unlicensed religious talks,” he said.

MAIS also revealed that since 2022, 35 individuals have had their credentials revoked for teaching Islamic studies after being found in violation of the rules.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, emphasized that credentials will be revoked if a speaker engages in actions that tarnish religious institutions.

He advised the public to verify the qualifications of speakers before inviting them, as reported by Harian Metro.

Dr Mohd Na’im added, “Any speaker who is granted a certificate and is later found to have committed acts that defile religious institutions will have their certificate revoked by the state religious authorities.”

“That is why I urge the public to check with the mufti or religious department before inviting any speaker, to ensure they are properly credentialed,” he said at a press conference after officiating the Da’wah Discourse Programme: Al-Falah Driving the Madani Ummah with Pondok Institutions on July 6 in Kelantan.

MAIS also stated that JAIS continues to monitor such matters closely and will take appropriate legal and disciplinary action against those involved, according to a statement posted on Facebook today.
