PUTRAJAYA, Aug 26 — The federal government has planned the provision of sites in Precinct 20 here for non-Muslim places of worship since 2013, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
He said the initiative not only reflected systematic and inclusive urban planning, but also provided appropriate spaces for communities of different faiths to practise their respective religions peacefully and harmoniously.
“This approach is also in line with the aspirations of Policy 17 — Putrajaya Towards an Inclusive Compassionate Community — under the Putrajaya Structure Plan 2050, which emphasises the importance of building an inclusive, mutually respectful community that lives in harmony.
“The initiative is also in line with the Harmoni Madani initiative introduced by the National Unity Ministry in 2024 to strengthen the concept of ‘Understand, Respect, Accept and Celebrate’ among Malaysia’s multireligious society,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier, Aaron and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh met members of the Prince of Peace Church, a newly established church located in Precinct 20.
According to Aaron, Precinct 20 has the potential to become an interfaith hub that brings together communities of different faiths through spaces for worship, interaction and dialogue, thereby strengthening mutual understanding, harmony and unity.
Besides the Prince of Peace Church, the area is also home to the Dhammaduta Malaysia Buddhist Centre, which has been operating since 2023, while the development of Gurdwara Sahib Putrajaya, Dewi Sri Lalithaambigai Alayam and San Qing Taoist Temple is currently underway. A site has also been planned for the construction of a Roman Catholic church. — Bernama
