
TAMBUNAN: The State Health Department confirmed the successful rescue of a pregnant woman who was in labour during a landslide at Jalan Ranau-Tambunan on Wednesday.
Its Director Dr Maria Suleiman said the operation was a collective effort, with cooperation from the Tambunan District Police Headquarters, local villagers and the public, which resulted in the woman being safely transported to Keningau Hospital.

“Both the mother and baby are in stable condition following the surgery,” she said, in a statement.

Read more Dr Maria said the incident took place in Kampung Pahu, Tambunan, where a landslide at 7.26am had blocked the main road, preventing ambulances and emergency vehicles from reaching the location.
“A medical team from Klinik Desa Tontolob, Liawan, Tambunan, which is located near the incident site, promptly conducted an initial assessment and stabilised the patient,” she said.

Dr Maria said subsequently, a retrieval team from the Emergency and Trauma Unit of Tambunan District Hospital was dispatched to the scene with an ambulance after receiving a call from the Tambunan district police.

“In this effort, officers from Tambunan police, along with local villagers and members of the public, successfully assisted in transporting the patient across the affected area via a safer alternative route before getting her to Keningau Hospital,” she added.
The department expressed its gratitude to all agencies involved in the operation, including the police, the Public Works Department (JKR), and the medical teams from Tambunan District Hospital, Keningau Hospital, and Klinik Desa Tontolob.
“The success of this mission highlights the importance of teamwork and the preparedness of emergency teams in managing unforeseen situations,” she said, thanking members of the public and local residents who assisted in the transfer process.
“It also reflects the efficiency of response teams in adapting disaster response plans to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare services,” she added.
