A SEVEN-month pregnant woman was left facing a difficult ordeal after police arrested her husband during a New Year’s Eve roadblock at the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza, where he tested positive for drugs.
The man, in his 30s, was detained on Wednesday night after screening results showed the presence of methamphetamine. He reportedly admitted to having fallen into drug use several years ago due to peer influence.
The arrest was part of Ops Ambang Tahun Baharu, a nationwide enforcement operation carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department at 240 locations across the country beginning at 11pm on Wednesday.
Bukit Aman Traffic Department deputy director for enforcement, traffic control and summons management, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohd Rozi Jidin, said the operation was conducted at 25 locations around the federal capital and simultaneously in all states.
The large-scale operation involved more than 300 officers and 2,000 police personnel, with support from other enforcement agencies including the Road Transport Department, the National Anti-Drug Agency, the Department of Environment and highway concession companies.
“The main focus of the operation was to manage traffic flow, tackle illegal street racing, which usually occurs after midnight, and identify drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” he said at a press conference at the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza shortly after midnight on Thursday.
In a separate operation, Kuala Lumpur Traffic Department chief Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said police issued 378 summonses for various traffic offences after inspecting 800 motorcycles during Ops Samseng Jalanan conducted at four locations around the capital from 2.45am on Thursday.
He said 90 motorcycles were seized for illegal modifications, with most of those caught aged between 15 and 19.
The most common offences detected included riding without a valid licence and expired road tax, as well as riding without a licence. Other violations involved unauthorised motorcycle modifications such as altered exhaust systems, tyres and faulty braking components.
Mohd Zamzuri said the operation was launched following numerous complaints from hotel operators and city residents over excessive motorcycle noise, particularly after New Year’s Eve celebrations, prompting police to step up enforcement to restore public order and road safety. - January 1, 2026
