Prego, the pasta sauce company, is launching a new device called the Connection Keeper. Designed to look like an oversized pasta jar lid, this is actually a puck-sized recorder, meant to listen to and record your conversations at the dinner table.

This isn’t Prego pivoting to AI though; the Connection Keeper won’t come with any AI, WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity. It’s quite literally just an audio recorder with a 16GB microSD card inside it that records up to eight hours of audio before you need to charge it again.

The Connection Keeper was developed together with American nonprofit StoryCorps, which is dedicated to the recording and preservation of the conversations of everyday Americans. You’ll have the option of uploading your Connection Keeper’s recordings to the Library of Congress via the StoryCorps website; StoryCorps says that these recordings will then be archived to highlight everyday family moments for generations to come.

The Prego Connection Keeper will go on sale in the US from 27 April onwards for USD20, and will be part of a bundle of Prego products which includes a jar of sauce, pasta and a deck of cards with questions and topics to talk about. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like it will be going on sale in Malaysia anytime soon, especially considering that Prego will only be making less than 100 Connection Keeper units.
