The Premier League have approved Sir Jim Ratcliffe's 25 per cent share purchase in Manchester United.

This follows news that the FA had also approved the deal.

"The Premier League now awaits confirmation of the transaction's completion," the league said in a statement, while confirming Ratcliffe, 71, has also signed its owners' charter.

The share purchase is the first to be agreed under the Premier League's updated owners' and directors' test.

"The FA can confirm that the Barclays Women's Super League and Barclays Women's Championship Board have approved the acquisition by Sir Jim Ratcliffe of Manchester United Football Club in relation to its Manchester United Women's entity," the FA said in a statement.

Ratcliffe's purchase will be formally completed after the share offer is closed, which is Friday night in the United States.
