Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has urged that the proposal to nominate Chinese new villages in Selangor as Unesco World Heritage Sites should not be turned into a racial issue. He emphasized that this proposal, which is still in the early stages, should not be sensationalized as it does not contribute to the harmony of a multiracial society.
Amirudin Shari mentioned that while not all proposals for gazetting will be considered, villages with centuries-old heritage will be prioritized. He cited examples such as the Hulu Langat Geopark and parts of the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark, which include Malay villages that have been gazetted. He highlighted the importance of long-term benefits over short-term political gains in maintaining racial harmony and stability.
His comments were in response to Perikatan Nasional member of parliament Wan Ahmad Fayshal Wan Ahmad Kamal's questioning of the proposal. The media had previously reported Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming's plans to nominate Chinese new villages in Selangor as Unesco World Heritage Sites to recognize their cultural and historical significance.
Regarding the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's statement that 50% of the members of the Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) should be professionals with expertise in urban development, Amirudin Shari expressed his commitment to achieving this goal. He stated that his team is working hard to ensure that 50% of the council's representation comprises diploma graduates and above.
At a recent event, Amirudin Shari witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Celcom-Digi Bhd and the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ). He also launched the MPAJ Convention Centre and MPAJ traffic wardens.
