MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. underscored the importance of ensuring access to justice for every Filipino as he inaugurated the Sulu Hall of Justice (SHJ) that would strengthen the province's rule of law.
The President on Tuesday said the Sulu justice hall, which sits on a 8,010-square-meter lot located at the Sulu provincial capitol in Jolo, would bring judicial services closer to the people.
“As we come together here at the Sulu Hall of Justice, we reaffirm a fundamental principle: that justice must be accessible to every Filipino, and that our institutions must uphold the rule of law, protect our people’s rights, and bring government closer to those it serves,” the President said.
Marcos said the limited judicial facilities in Sulu have long hampered service delivery, disrupted court operations, delayed case resolution, and placed an additional burden on the people.
He acknowledged that these challenges affect Filipinos whose livelihoods and families may depend on the timely resolution of their cases.
“After all, peace means resolving conflicts through justice, treating every person with fairness, and respecting the rule of law,” the President said.
"The establishment of the Sulu Hall of Justice is a concrete step toward making that principle a reality," the Chief Executive said.
The SHJ "makes the justice system more accessible to our people, providing a place where their rights can be upheld, their grievances heard, and their disputes resolved under the rule of law," he said.
"Beyond providing a dedicated space for court operations, the Sulu Hall of Justice supports the Judiciary’s continuing efforts to improve efficiency and modernize its services," he added.
