Donald Trump and Joe Biden have concluded their first presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle in Atlanta, Georgia.
The president stumbled over answers and rambled, appearing low energy with the White House confirming later that he had a cold. Trump meanwhile spouted lies and falsehoods throughout mostly failing to answer questions and had to be pressed three times on whether he would accept election results.
Broadcast live from CNN’s studios with the network’s anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash serving as moderators. Biden arrived at the venue accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden. Melania Trump was not in attendance. There was no handshake between the two candidates as they took the stage and no love lost by the end.
Democrats appeared in “deep panic” from early on in the debate as Biden appeared frail and quiet. In post-debate analysis, CNN pundits even spoke of the possibility that he should step down as the party’s candidate.
