The much-anticipated Precious of Malaysia, organized by FM Group, returns as the second season to promote Malaysian culture, tradition, and fashion. The acclaimed "Cultural Revolution - Truly Malaysia" campaign aims to increase awareness among society and assist the government in empowering, conserving, and preserving our national heritage, culture, history, art, fashion, tourism, and unique Malaysian lifestyles for future generations. This was unveiled today at Zebra Square in Kuala Lumpur during an official launch and press conference event sponsored by Precious of Malaysia founders and famous fashion designers Farel Mikhail & Jonathan Kok of FM Group. Deputy Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister YB Tuan Khairul Firdaus Akhbar Khan officiated at the event.
Also gracing the event were Precious of Malaysia Patron Y.M. Tengku Dato' Dr Hishammuddin Zaizi bin Y.A.M Tengku Bendahara Azman Shah Alhaj, Precious of Malaysia Advisors Puan Sri Akmal Abdul Salam, Dato' Kevin Lee and Dato' Nurzarina, Jabatan Warisan Negara - Intangible Heritage Department Director Dr Eyo Leng Yan, various fashion designers, dignitaries, celebrities, industry personalities and members of the media.
During the ceremony, there was also a sneak peek of the official theme music for Precious of Malaysia. Precious of Malaysia Ambassadors and official sponsors were also announced at the inaugural event. Attendees also got a sneak peek at Precious of Malaysia's fashion display, which featured designers Jonathan Kok (cheongsam), Farel Mikhail (Melayu manis), Kenny Low (nyonya kebaya), and Qif Alvarez (songket menswear). As a prologue to the main event, Putra Wakalam (warrior clothes), Harry Putraa (songket kurung), Armnabil (songket evening dress), and Zhu Said showcased their unique and eye-catching creations.
From the 10th to the 15th of October 2023, Precious of Malaysia will be staged at Mirage By Pak Abu at Zebra Square Kuala Lumpur. It is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) and Jabatan Warisan Negara (Jabatan Warisan Negara). The campaign will feature four important components this year: Cultural Fashion Week, Tanjak & Tengkolok Di Raja Exhibition, Cultural Gala Night, and Hari Tanjak Malaysia.
The Cultural Fashion Week will take place on the 14th and 15th of October at the same location. It will highlight the incredible inventiveness of emerging local fashion designers while also focusing on moving the industry forward by incorporating various elements of culture and heritage into the mainstream flow of fashion in Malaysia today. Among the designers featured during the Cultural Fashion Week will be 10 fashion designers from the Asean Fashion Designer Confederation, 8 students from Taylor's University's Bachelor of Fashion Design Technology (Honours), and students from UiTM and Kolej Community Selayang, who have been given the opportunity to present their designs during the showcase. Cultural singing and dancing performances, as well as a fashion show for local fashion designers with a focus on classic and contemporary styles, will be included in the Cultural Fashion Week. There will also be a fashion designer and model award presentation.
The Royal Tanjak & Tengkolok Exhibition, which will be held from the 10th to the 15th of October 2023, will be another big and distinctive highlight of Precious of Malaysia this year. Tanjak or Tengkolok is a style of headgear that is traditionally worn by the Malay people, especially by men, but also by women. It's fashioned of long songket cloth that's been folded and tied in various ways. The folding of this fabric has evolved over time, improved and adapted according to the wearer's abilities. On October 15, 2023, there will also be a remembrance of the Hari Tanjak Malaysia.
To commemorate Malaysia's rich heritage, there will be an exciting procession of people dressed in traditional garb, as well as a best traditional attire competition on the day. A Silat (Malay martial arts) competition and a Traditional Silat Percussion competition will also be held.
The main highlight of the event will be the Cultural Gala Night which will see the official commemoration of Precious of Malaysia by his Royal Highness Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail and Her Royal Highness Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil. The exclusive red carpet event will also be attended by dignitaries, celebrities, VIPs, and significant fashion industry figures. A Malaysian Cultural Fashion Showcase, traditional performances, and artist performances will be among the highlights of the Cultural Gala Night. The official release of the Precious of Malaysia theme song and the presentation of the Precious Of Malaysia Awards will be the main attractions. During the gala dinner, event ambassadors, sponsors, and collaboration partners will also be recognized.
