The Cake Hunter is a premium cake and dessert store located in Puchong. They specialise in baking and building beautiful cakes, in any shape and form that you may dream. From two-tiered cartoon cakes to a opera cakes, they have every cake you need for an enjoyable occasion!
The store is opened and led by Chef Hong, who earned a place in the World Top 10 of the IKA/Culinary Olympics in 2020. With a long history in creating wonderful cakes, he has also crafted cakes for a few well known names in Malaysia, such as our PMX Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Namewee. The Cake Hunter currently has two locations - one in IOI Mall and their HQ, both located in Puchong (see below for address). They sell both ready-made cakes and are open to accepting orders of custom-made cakes. The ready-made cakes are available to be purchased by walk-in in-store at any of their two locations, and they have a huge variety of cakes to choose from! Do note that dine-ins are not available and that you can only takeaway.
There is a very luxurious ambiance as you step into the store, with bright lights and gold-colored interior decorations. The staff are welcoming and will approach you to aid with what you're looking for. They also sell other desserts such as biscuits, tea, and some cake decoration tools.
There are various different designs and flavors of cakes to choose from, depending on your occasion and audience. For 2-3 people, there are mini cakes with various childhood characters to choose from! From Disney to Gudetama to Corgis, each cake has a price range of around RM20-RM25 and each cake design has a different flavour. This cake would be a treat for small children who have an affinity for cute characters! In the store, there is a catalog that you can purview to view all the designs of the ready-made cakes available with it's flavor and price. The mini cakes themselves fill about three pages!
Personally, I purchased the Gudetama mini cake with Chocolate Caramel flavor as I am a big fan of the character. The cake texture was soft and layered perfectly. However, it would be great if there was a stronger caramel taste to the cake as the buttercream is quite thick. It was a great prop for photos as it has a bright yellow color! Quite similar-looking to the lazy egg character as well.
For more mature audiences, dark chocolate cakes and opera cakes are available for purchase as well. I purchased an opera cake for RM48, and it received praise from my entire family. The cake is not too sweet and hits the hazelnut notes just right, without overpowering the flavor of the cake entirely. The portion may be a bit small.
Overall, these are the prettiest cakes I've come across in Selangor. There's something for every person, and I specifically love their mini cakes because they would be great gifts for friends who do not love cake or will be receiving too many cakes for their birthday already. The size is just perfect.
