RANAU: The Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for the Kaamatan Festival and Gawai Day will be implemented from May 27 to June 4 in Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan, covering 17 controlled goods.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the nine-day scheme was aimed at ensuring stable prices and sufficient supply of essential goods during the festive period while balancing the interests of consumers and traders.
He said the scheme would cover 12 controlled items in Sabah and Sarawak and 11 items in Labuan, with imported old ginger and potatoes from China added to the Sabah list this year, while imported buffalo meat from India was added for the Gawai Day scheme in Sarawak.
Speaking after announcing the SHMMP at Kundasang on Friday, Armizan said price trends in Sabah and Labuan were more stable this year, with six goods recording price reductions in both locations compared to last year’s implementation.
He said the scheme would be enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, with enforcement officers monitoring compliance at markets and shopping centres, while traders found breaching regulations could face fines and imprisonment.
