Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has made it clear that no individual involved in the ongoing investigation into GISB Holdings (GISBH) will be allowed to hide behind race or religion if found guilty of child abuse or mistreatment of workers. His firm stance follows a police crackdown on the organization amid alarming reports of child exploitation, abuse, and the mistreatment of employees.
Speaking at a community gathering in Kapit, Anwar emphasized that justice must prevail, regardless of the status or identity of those implicated. “There is no excuse for oppression or the denial of basic human rights in this country. If anyone, regardless of their race or religion, abuses children, violates laws, or mistreats workers, we will take decisive action,” Anwar asserted. His remarks, initially aired on Buletin Utama, reflect the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward abuse and exploitation, particularly in organizations that claim to operate under religious or charitable banners.
No Shield Behind Race or Religion
Anwar's comments come after the recent crackdown on welfare homes run by GISBH, which has been under investigation for a series of allegations ranging from child abuse to exploitation of workers. In his speech, Anwar was unequivocal: there will be no hiding behind religious or racial identities to avoid accountability.
“We cannot allow anyone to use race or religion to cover up wrongdoings,” Anwar stated. “If you oppress, break the rules, and abuse children, if you fail to take care of your workers, I will not waver. Action will be taken, regardless of who you are. This is the only way we can move forward as a nation.”
A Transparent Investigation Promised
The prime minister also reassured the public that the government is fully committed to ensuring a transparent investigation into GISBH's activities. The crackdown on the organization’s welfare homes has brought to light serious abuses, and the authorities have moved swiftly to rescue hundreds of children from horrific conditions.
On September 27, Anwar reiterated the government's dedication to a thorough and fair inquiry, urging members of GISBH, including those located abroad, to cooperate with the authorities. “We call on all individuals associated with GISBH, whether they are in Malaysia or outside the country, to come forward and assist in the investigation,” he said.
The prime minister’s call for cooperation underscores the seriousness of the allegations against GISBH, as the government seeks to ensure that no stone is left unturned in uncovering the truth.
Massive Rescue Operation Uncovers Shocking Abuse
Earlier this month, police launched a major operation against GISBH, targeting its welfare homes in response to reports of widespread abuse. In the raids, 402 children aged between one and 17 were rescued. The children had allegedly been subjected to various forms of exploitation and abuse, including physical violence and, in some cases, sexual assault.
Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, revealed that the victims had suffered horrific treatment, including rape and other forms of exploitation. The revelations have sent shockwaves across the country, prompting widespread outrage and demands for justice.
The authorities are continuing to investigate the full extent of GISBH's operations, with the organization accused of abusing its religious and charitable standing to engage in illegal and unethical practices. The rescue operation has also brought renewed focus on the need for stricter regulation and oversight of welfare homes and charitable organizations in Malaysia.
Anwar’s Commitment to Justice
Anwar's firm response to the GISBH case reflects his broader commitment to ensuring that human rights are respected across Malaysia, particularly when it comes to vulnerable groups like children and workers. His promise to take decisive action, regardless of the race or religion of those involved, marks a significant stand against exploitation and abuse.
“This is not just about enforcing the law, but about protecting the most vulnerable among us,” Anwar stated. “We must ensure that no organization, no matter how powerful, can operate outside the law.”
As the investigation into GISBH continues, the government’s stance under Anwar's leadership sends a strong message: there will be no leniency for those who engage in child abuse, exploitation, or the mistreatment of workers. In the coming weeks, authorities are expected to ramp up efforts to hold those responsible accountable and ensure that justice is served.
For the victims, particularly the 402 children rescued in the raids, Anwar's commitment provides a glimmer of hope that their suffering will not go unanswered and that Malaysia is moving toward a future where such abuses are no longer tolerated.
